I was unemployed and searching for a job in my neighborhood close to me so that I could still take care of my kids. I graduated from Langara College with certificates in ECE. My only problem was finding a work environment that I was happy and wanted to work in.

I was unemployed for 4 years due to drug addiction. I have a criminal record and the major challenges which I faced in keeping my job were owing to my addiction.

I was unemployed and on disability.  It had been several years since I had a sustainable employment. I was facing financial hardships which was a big reason for my unemployment, as I was unable to arrange for the required work gear. Addiction prevented me from finding work, along with cognitive and learning issues as well.

I arrived in Canada in August 2022 on a work permit and actively sought employment from January 2023. Unfortunately, I was not successful in finding a job during this period. Once I obtained my PR, I reached out to WorkBC Centre Guildford for assistance. The major challenge I faced was the recession in 2023, which resulted in limited job opportunities and company layoffs. There was intense competition for available jobs, and opportunities were scarce. Additionally, my temporary visa status prevented me from accessing various benefits that one could avail after registering with WorkBC. This limitation made my job search journey more challenging, as I lacked access to the enhanced resources and platforms that could have facilitated a smoother job search.

I was unemployed. I used to struggle with getting call back after my interviews. I came to WorkBC Centre Guildford to look for possible employment profiles.

I was unemployed for the last 2 years. I was struggling with my communication skills as I realized I was not vocal enough to describe my strengths to the employers.  

I faced many challenges to find a full-time job because of my age, lack of training and language barrier.

I migrated to Canada and was unemployed for more than 6 months when I got to know about employment services offered by WorkBC.

I had been laid off after working for over 10 years and was unsure about my future career. The biggest challenge I had faced was my hearing problem along with lack of work experience/ education if I wanted to change my career.

I moved to Coquitlam in September, 2022, being unemployed for two months until I visited WorkBC Centre Guilford. I was new to the city, having no acquaintance to help me find a job. In addition, the position I held before was not decent enough to survive in Lower Mainland area due to such a high cost of living. So, I decided to start a new career; however, I didn't know where to begin.

I was unemployed for approximately 10 months. I didn’t have a marketable resume and needed guidance to brush up my Interview skills. I was unsuccessful in finding a sustainable employment for a long time.

I was unemployed before I came to WorkBC. I tried several ways to find a job on my own, but I failed to find any. Then, I decided register at WorkBC Centre Guildford. I had physical and educational barriers.

I had been unemployed for six months before coming to WorkBC Centre Guildford. Most of my experience was in construction, but due to personal reasons, it wasn’t feasible for me to continue working in that industry.

I had a contractual job in a family owned business and had no formal qualifications or training for the job. After the contract period got over, it was not renewed. Therefore, I became unemployed from August 31, 2022. I got in touch with WorkBC Centre Guildford in September, 2022. I was continuously applying for various jobs but there was no response.

Like many people have experienced, my hours of work were greatly reduced during Covid 19. Initially, I had a full-time job as a chef in a Japanese sushi restaurant, but later on, I had to work part-time because the restaurant was not doing well. So, I had to quit that job.  I decided to switch careers for various reasons, including my social worker education in my home country, so I was interested in the community support worker position. I applied to several job openings, but it wasn't easy. 

When I came to Canada, I didn’t know anything about how to find a job. My background from my home country was of a teacher/ educator and I was looking for similar roles. I kept applying for jobs but did not receive any response. Then, one of my friends suggested me to go to WorkBC and she assured me that WorkBC would definitely help me with my job search.

I was a stay-at-home mother for 10 years and was looking for work for last two years. I was sending my resume to many companies but no company ever replied to my application.  When I attended a job fair, I was told that my being stay-at-home mother for years and lack of Canadian experience were two of the main reasons why I was not receiving any response from the companies.

I was helpless when I started my job search in September. My resume was not as per the Canadian job market. Laura from WorkBC Centre Guildford helped me with it. Once I started getting interview calls, WorkBC Centre Whalley helped me prepare for the interviews by conducting mock interviews. Staff at WorkBC Centre Whalley helped me appear for my interviews smoothly when my laptop was not working properly. I felt it was so helpful and it meant a lot to me.

I obtained my Class 1 driver’s license in 2020. I worked as a long-haul truck driver for a couple of months but, lost my job due to Co-vid. I came to WorkBC Centre Guildford late in 2022, while I was on Employment Insurance for 4 months. I was now looking for a job with extended benefits.

I am Owen. I was a cook by profession, for which I had a diploma but I couldn’t return to my job in the food/ beverage industry due to health issues. I did not have any training that I could rely on to get a good job so I was only able to get short-term employment in construction as a labourer. I was looking for long-term employment opportunities, but I didn’t have great job search or computer skills so applying for jobs online was a difficult task for me. I was unemployed for 8 months before coming to WorkBC Centre Guildford.
