Paul's Job Search Journey

Unpaid Work Experience

I was unemployed for the last 2 years. I was struggling with my communication skills as I realized I was not vocal enough to describe my strengths to the employers.

I got to know about WorkBC Employment services through a counsellor at PICS. After completing the Food Assistant program, I was referred to WorkBC Centre Guildford for employment. I had the training but was unable to find a job. At WorkBC Centre Guildford, I met my case manager Upasana.

Upasana helped me prepare for the job interviews through mock job interviews. Also, she connected with different employers to seek employment for me as kitchen helper. As a step towards employment, she connected with White Spot for unpaid work experience. I currently work there for 3 days (5 hours each day). As my job responsibility I help in weighing of products, washing dishes, cleaning. I am enjoying the work environment and I am certain that this experience shall help me secure a paid job opportunity.

I’d like to thank WorkBC for helping me overcome my barriers and find a work experience that would surely help me progress in life.
