Finding My Path in Canada
Before asking for support at WorkBC, I worked as a supervisor at Bigger Fresh Mart in Saskatchewan for several years. However, after moving to Surrey on July 28th, I began my job search and got registered at WorkBC Centre Guildford, I trusted them my focus on looking opportunities in Supply Chain Management (SCM) and Logistics. The process took over two months, including one month of support from WorkBC.
As an immigrant, I faced several challenges in my job search:
- Lack of Canadian education and training
- No work experience in British Columbia
- Limited professional network in BC
- Absence of relevant certifications (like Forklift and First Aid)
My turning point came when I attended a SUCCESS workshop in June about WorkBC Employment Services. I found the information enlightening and immediately registered at WorkBC Centre Guildford. The support I received was invaluable, particularly the CPR (First Aid) and Forklift training programs. These certifications greatly enhanced my interview prospects.
By opening my case with WorkBC, I accessed essential job information, short training sessions, and guidance from my Employment Counsellor. They answered all my questions about interviews, the labor market, and more. Their support was instrumental in my journey.
Thanks to their guidance, I secured a sustainable job as a Warehouse Worker (Operations Specialist) starting September 9, 2024. I truly believe that receiving support from WorkBC was a fantastic decision. If you find yourself unemployed, I highly recommend seeking assistance from WorkBC. They offer valuable job information and vocational training that can make a significant difference.
I am grateful for the support I received and excited about my new role!
