Suyeon's Beautiful Journey to Success
As a new immigrant, I recently became PR. I used to work as a piano teacher for a long time in Korea but in BC, I had no idea which job to find. A settlement worker in SUCCESS introduced me to Sunnie Song, a Korean-speaking employment counsellor at WorkBC Guildford Centre. I contacted Sunnie and she opened my case. She explained all the services I could receive from WorkBC. She was kind and informative. After a discussion with Sunnie, I chose to apply for jobs as an early childcare assistant because I love children.
I started to apply for jobs and my counsellor kept encouraging me. I had no work experience for the last four years in Canada so I was not confident about my job search. I thought my English level was too low to find a job. Sunnie also provided good online English resources. To apply for jobs in child care, a First Aid certificate is needed. She arranged a First Aid certificate training for me. I applied for jobs and had a couple of interviews and received a job offer from a childcare center called Jelly Bean Park. I was hired as a full-time childcare worker assistant. I am going to start my new work on August 8.
Thank you, Sunnie and WorkBC Guildford for helping me in my job search and for my first job in Canada. I am so excited!!
