Sara's Incredible Life Changing Experience

“Why was I not getting any responses?” I asked myself. I was not able to find full-time jobs for three years after Covid 19 hit everyone.

"You should go and visit WorkBC!” one of my friend told me with a smile. Then, on the following day, I went there. The receptionist and resources room advisor were very welcoming and efficient. “You will be fine.” My case manager Sunnie Song calmly said to me.

After the first three appointments, she clearly knew my personality, aspirations, and talents. Sunnie got me on Occupational Skills Training package right away. WorkBC helped me fund both my tuition and living costs. I was grateful that I could focus on my study. In October, 2022, I started the Career Development Practitioner (CDP) program at Simon Fraser University (SFU). And, Sunnie was right. I loved the program and this helping profession.

In February, 2023, by the time I finished the practicum, informational interviews, and class presentation, I was able to have several strong work-related references. I applied jobs during and after the SFU’s CDP program. I landed a job as an Employment Counsellor at another WorkBC location within 12 days. I will be working at South Surrey-White Rock location from February 27th, 2023.

“Congratulations!” “So, you are hired!” “Good job!” WorkBC Administrative Assistant Michelle Weiss exclaimed. I could not do it without you all. From the bottom of my heart, I want to say, “Thank you, Sunnie, Michelle, and Guildford WorkBC!”
