Closing the Gap on Unemployment
After being unemployed for about five months, I knew I needed a new approach. In January 2026, I connected with SUCCESS, where I was referred to WorkBC Centre Guildford. Knowing there was a Korean-speaking staff member there made me feel more comfortable taking that first step.
Like many newcomers, I struggled to adapt to the Canadian job market. I wasn't sure how to create a targeted resume and cover letter that would meet Canadian employer expectations or pass applicant tracking systems (ATS). Preparing for interviews in English on my own also felt overwhelming, and despite my efforts, I wasn't seeing any results.
I realized that searching for a job on my own wasn't enough. I needed professional guidance to better understand the Canadian job market, strengthen my resume, improve my interview skills, and find the right direction for my career. One of my biggest challenges was overcoming a lengthy employment gap while transitioning into a completely new field.
With the support of my WorkBC team, everything began to change. My case manager provided professional guidance, encouragement, and a clear plan that helped me regain confidence and stay focused throughout my job search. Step by step, I felt more prepared and optimistic about my future!
After months of hard work and support, I was thrilled to receive a job offer as a Glazier with B3 Glass! It was more than just securing employment. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my life.
For me, success isn't simply about finding a job. It's about rebuilding the confidence I lost during my employment gap, having a place to go every morning, contributing as a member of society, and once again enjoying the routine and purpose that comes with meaningful work. Looking back, I'm incredibly grateful for the support I received from WorkBC Centre Surrey Guildford. Their guidance helped me move forward with confidence and start a career I can be proud of!
