Aligning My Interests with My New Skills

Before coming to WorkBC Centre Guildford, I was unemployed and uncertain about my future. I did not know where to begin my job search, where to find opportunities, or how to market my skills to employers. The entire process felt overwhelming, and I lacked confidence in whether my experience and training were enough to meet the demands of the local job market.

As I explored job listings, I realized that many positions required updated credentials and specialized training. I also faced strong competition from other job seekers and found it difficult to identify opportunities that matched my background and experience. While researching new career paths, I focused on fields that aligned with the skills I had already developed so that I could build on my existing strengths while gaining new knowledge. Although the process required significant time and effort, it helped me better understand the steps needed to achieve a successful career transition.

My sister saw the challenges I was facing and encouraged me to visit WorkBC. She believed they could provide the guidance, resources, and support I needed to move forward. Taking her advice, I contacted WorkBC Centre Guildford and booked an appointment to learn more about the services available to job seekers.

From my first meeting, the team at WorkBC Centre Guildford provided valuable support and direction. My case manager worked closely with me to identify career options that matched my skills and interests, improve my resume, and develop a clear action plan to achieve my employment goals. WorkBC also helped me access training and educational opportunities that allowed me to upgrade my credentials and become more competitive in today's job market. Throughout the process, I received ongoing encouragement and support, which helped me gain confidence in my abilities and move toward a new career path.

Today, I am employed as a Medical Office Assistant. Through WorkBC's Skills Enhancement Occupational Skills Training program, I received the education and practical training needed to prepare for this role. In addition, WorkBC's wage subsidy program helped create an opportunity that ultimately led to my employment. With updated qualifications, new skills, and the support of WorkBC, I was able to successfully secure a position in a field that aligns with both my interests and strengths.

WorkBC has had a significant impact on my life and career. When I was struggling to find employment, they provided the guidance, resources, and opportunities I needed to move forward with confidence. The training, career planning, and individualized support I received helped me build on my existing strengths, transition into a new profession, and achieve greater financial stability.

I am incredibly grateful for the assistance I received through WorkBC! Their support helped me transform a period of uncertainty into a rewarding new career. I would highly recommend WorkBC to anyone who is looking for work, considering a career change, or seeking support to achieve their employment goals!
