"If you have the will to do it, WorkBC will help you and let you write a new chapter." - Jeon
Like many people have experienced, my hours of work were greatly reduced during Covid 19. Initially, I had a full-time job as a chef in a Japanese sushi restaurant, but later on, I had to work part-time because the restaurant was not doing well. So, I had to quit that job. I decided to switch careers for various reasons, including my social worker education in my home country, so I was interested in the community support worker position. I applied to several job openings, but it wasn't easy.
Most employers required at least one year of experience and a diploma/ degree in the related field. The collective feedback was that I was not ready for Canada.
I already knew about WorkBC from friends and had heard stories of people who were successful in finding employment with their help. I also knew that my wife was already talking to WorkBC about changing her career to become ECE. She strongly recommended that I should apply for WorkBC services, so I decided to register at WorkBC Centre Guildford.
At WorkBC, they considered my history, qualifications and aptitude, and introduced me to suitable jobs and the appropriate training programs to get there. They also helped me with tuition and living expenses to achieve this. I was able to complete all of my courses, all thanks to the support b WorkBC Centre Guildford.
I finished my Diploma program in May and got a job in July. It's a three-days-a-week job to start with and the pay is decent. In the future, I expect the hours to increase and the hourly wage to go up. I'm happy with my current job because I have a lot of benefits at work that I didn't have at my previous job, such as dental insurance and MPP.
WorkBC has been highly professional and friendly throughout. You just need to be courageous and take up the challenge. If you have the will to do it, WorkBC will help you and let you write a new chapter.
